Who would have thought that compression stockings would be such a popular fashion trend but so beneficial for your health and well being. It’s been about 2 1/2 years that I have been wearing my own pair of compression stockings and I truly love them, not only are they preventative of varicose veins they also look stylish and comfortable. The socks shown up above are the famous Sigvaris line, which are amazing and like I said are super comfortable and stylish. They look amazing when you are working out, adds the pop of colour to your outfit. I always feel better when there is colour to my outfit, it cheers me up before my workout. Sigvaris, not only provide calf length stockings, but also thigh-high and pantyhose length. However, the sports style of compression stockings are all calf length just so you are aware.

What is amazing is that if you obtain a prescription from your doctor indicating the 20-30 mmHg compression level, they can be covered by your insurance company, or at least that is how it works here in Canada. As well, you would need to check with your insurance company if they cover compression stockings. But if they are covered by your health insurance, then you pretty much get your money back.  A great company known as PRS Inc., provide amazing services where you can order your compression stockings, but they also complete all the paperwork required for your insurance company. The customer services is outstanding.

Another amazing brand of compression stockings are Lunatik Athletiks, they provide some interestingly amazing designs of compression stockings that are funky, colorful and very appealing to the eyes.  Take a look at some of these website, amazing compression stockings out there. Top 3 Favourite Teas

I don’t know about you but I absolutely love tea. I have tea for breakfast, tea for lunch even tea during dinner. There is something so calming about tea that you can’t resist making a cup and just getting comfortable on the couch. But I’m very specific about my teas and there are three particular tea’s that I found just work wonders for three particular reasons. Let me go through each tea and why I love to drink it.

IMG_1317Clipper Green Tea – this amazing green tea is something that I would have on a daily basis, it’s my go to tea. What’s amazing about green tea is that it has amazing benefits for you including boosting your metabolism, great for the mind, amazing antioxidants, and we know that antioxidants are important overall. This tea is so nice and light in flavour when you add a splash of  sweetener it just tastes amazing, even as cold tea. That’s the reason why I love Clipper’s green tea the lightness of the tea.

IMG_1314Pukka Love Tea – organic rose, chamomile and lavender the hints in this tea and I love to drink this tea when I have upset stomach which I get quite often. If you didn’t know I have celiac disease and I’ve been recently diagnosed in September 2014 and during my process of changing to a gluten-free diet I still get stomach issues here and there. Thus, when I get those upset stomach days I love to drink this tea. Chamomile is definitely something you want to drink to calm those stomach pains. Pukka not only sounds and look adorable but has amazing hints of all three the rose, chamomile, and lavender. Definitely recommend this tea.

IMG_1318Davids Tea Organic Super Ginger – what can I say about this tea other then that it’s definitely gingery. Is that even a word, I don’t know but who cares I’m claiming it as a word. This tea is absolutely amazing to drink when you have that measly cold or flu. Ginger is simply AMAZING to drink or just to consume when your sick. It helps to kill off the bacteria that has taken over your body.  I don’t drink this tea on a daily occasion but I do drink it when I get sick or if I feel a cold/flu is trying to sneak upon me. If you want the super ultimate fighting tea for colds then drink this tea.

Lifestyle Sunday: Yoga Essentials

These are just some of the essentials for any good yoga session. A good workout bra, a good top, comfortable stretchy pants and the most important is hydration and I find CamelBak is an amazing water bottle.

I absolutely love Youtube because it has channels for everything you are looking for. A great yoga workout on youtube it Yoga with Adriene. She provides amazing video content and easy to follow yoga sessions. Please check out her youtube channel if you are looking for yoga to do at home.

As we are entering the month of February, and the new year has had some time to sink in this is when people have either given up on their new years resolution or they are still sticking strong to it. I know that it can be hard to maintain that healthy diet with all the various events that come up. Whether it be a friends birthday dinner, movies and dinner for Valentines Day or some sort of family dinner event, remember not to be so hard on yourself. We all fall and the whole point is to get back up and try again.

Now something that I’ve noticed that has helped me greatly to stay on track and more self-aware of my food intake, how often and the amount I eat was to keep a weekly meal plan scheduler. Which means that you plan out your meals whether it be in detail or in general for each week. Even though it works for me, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it will work for you, or be something that interest you. But if you are truly motivated to stay on track with your health and diet then I’d highly recommend it. I do have some of the pros and cons of doing a weekly meal planner.

PROS
– 
Great reminder for yourself of what you were supposed to eat, allowing you not to lean towards the not so good food.
– Great way to keep you organized, if you dedicate one day to plan your weekly meal it sets you up for the whole week.
– You have written it out for the world to see what you plan to eat, so technically you can’t back down from that. Again great
motivation and forces you to stick to it.
– Allows you to set up your grocery list dependent on your meal planner, thus less chances of buying junk food and instead
you end up getting mostly healthier food instead.
– Gets you more involved in learning about the food you are consuming and allowing you to expand your food palette and
knowledge.
CONS
 – It can be challenging thinking of a different meal for every single day
– Can be time consuming, so you have to definitely allocate a good amount of time in the beginning until you get the hand of it
– Can conflict with the nights that you randomly go out for dinner, otherwise you can plan in advance for nights you are
planning to eat out or go out with friends/family for dinner.
– If you aren’t an organizer, then this might be something of an annoyance for you. But you can definitely use this plan as a
template that you can incorporate in some other form that works for you.
– Habit, Habit & Habit is something that this needs to become for people which can be tough. Thus, a great amount of
motivation needs to come to continue doing it.

If this is a whole new concept for you, remember one thing and that is to have fun. Food doesn’t have to be daunting, scary or a nuisance. Food is pleasurable and healthy food can definitely be fun and delicious, you just have to maintain a positive image of it and remember that at the end it makes you a better you. Food impacts us a lot, and having and ingesting the best food like fruits and veggies is what makes us healthy, with beautiful skin, hair and overall a health self.

Getting Rid of Acne

It’s one of those days, where you developed a pimple or a zit, it just appears out of no where. I can’t handle it, I just want to pick at it, or get rid of it as soon as possible. But no you have to refrain yourself from picking at it, so these are the products I use to get rid of those nasty annoying suckers.

First thing that I do is to wash my face with The Body Shop Tea Tree Skin Clearing facial wash. If you didn’t already know, tea tree oil is actually very good for drying out any pimples or zits you may have. The oil has antibacterial properties that make it a great treatment for acne. I find that The Body Shop’s facial wash is great and helps to dry out those pimples.

Another product that I may use if the zit/pimple is being extremely difficult is use the Clean & Clear Advantage Mark Treatment. This basically has acne medication called salicylic acid, which if you didn’t know by now is amazing at clearing up acne.

Lastly, the Thayers Rose Petal & Witch Hazel Toner is an optional step in your skin care routine. I find that it helps with preventing pimples in general from appearing if you use it routinely. Rose water is helpful in clearing oil from the skin without leaving the skin dry. While the compounds in witch hazel is amazing for reducing the inflammation of a pimple or zit. Thus, once I have washed my face, I’ll take a pad with some of the toner and gently clean my face and neck of any access oil and dirt.

These are the products I use to prevent acne or acne scars from developing, simple and affordable.
